Position: QHIP Program Assistant

Hourly Rate: $23.00/hr

Hours: 20 to 25 hours per week, including evenings, nights, and weekends

FLSA status: Non-exempt, eligible for overtime

Employment Period: Temporary position - August 1 through December 4, 2026

Location: HIP office in Fresno, California

Reports to: Fresno Trans/Queer Community Organizer

Deadline: Open until filled

POSITION SUMMARY:

Hmong Innovating Politics (HIP) is a grassroots organization whose mission is to advance social justice and build power with Hmong youth and families through leadership development and multi-generational community organizing. HIP’s offices are based in Fresno and Sacramento, California. HIP is fiscally sponsored by Asian Americans for Civil Rights & Equality (AACRE). Staff hired by HIP will be employees of AACRE.

The Queer Hmong Intersectional Pride (QHIP) Program Assistant plays a critical role in engaging communities through creating & implementing third space programming that intentionally fosters connections between members, participants and the broader community. Through this program they will assist with volunteer & member retention for the rest of QHIP’s 2026 program activities. They will implement QHIP’s Young Adult outreach strategy alongside HIP’s Trans/Queer Community Organizer to expand the reach of QHIP’s third space program, election volunteer opportunities & basebuilding work.

EXPECTATION & RESPONSIBILITY

  • Third Space Program: is a social space separate from the two usual social environments of home ("first place") and school/workplace ("second place")

    • Develop a timeline & successfully coordinate monthly third space programs from August - November, that center community connection, care & dialogue 

    • Facilitate each event to ensure participants experience desired outcomes

    • Prepare event agendas using the Purpose, Outcomes, Process & People (POPP) Model that clearly communicates activities, goals, objectives, roles and responsibilities.

    • Communicate & make requests for regional staff support in a timely manner

  • Outreach

    • Engage in outreach activities such as tabling, social media & attending community events to share information about QHIP’s third space program, election volunteer opportunities & membership.

    • Create outreach content such as posters, physical & digital flyers and social media reels and in language as needed

    • Increase the intentional participation of Hmong and People of Color (POC) communities. 

  • Administrative & Other Org Duties

    • Attend & report at bi-weekly Fresno Region HIP Staff meetings 

    • Complete program tracker for each event by reporting key details & reflections

    • Participate in Fresno Regional Team Building day on Aug 14, 2026

    • Attend end of program debriefs & celebrations

  • Training 

    • Attend and complete Mandatory Employee Orientation and Training dates

    • Complete HIP Staff Core Competency Training

  • Work Requirements

    • The position is mainly an in-person role with the option to work from home per a schedule agreement with the supervisor

    • They may be required to work evenings, weekends, and stay overnight.

    • Must be available to work the anticipated dates as follows: 

      • QHIP Closing Retreat

        • Must be available overnight for: Friday, November 20; Saturday, November 21; Sunday, November 22, 2026

      • Note: Schedules are subject to change to meet the organization's goal. 

    • Arrive to shifts on time and remain responsible by maintaining consistent communication with the supervisor, responding to their messages, and notifying them of schedule conflicts as soon as possible. 

  • Be able to learn and collaborate with other HIP staff

  • Be able to learn and apply key principles and practices of healing justice 


QUALIFICATIONS

Below are desired qualifications. The necessary requirement is to be open to learning and be passionate about building and strengthening relationships with Trans-Queer youth, young adults and community.

  • Commitment to the mission and vision of HIP and social & healing justice principles. 

  • Commitment to expanding HIP’s base.

  • Computer proficient and knowledgeable in navigating and using the internet. 

  • Must have the willingness and ability to travel and get to work on time.

  • Strong communication & planning skills, motivation, and adaptability, including the ability to work under pressure and with deadlines.

  • Open to feedback and the ability to adjust based on the supervisor’s feedback

  • Ability to follow procedures and instructions from a supervisor and perform tasks independently

  • (A plus) Fluent in English, bilingual/biliterate in Hmong or another language.

PAID SICK LEAVE & ELIGIBLE STIPENDS

  • Paid sick leave is accrued at a rate of 1 hour for every 30 hours worked.

  • Mileage reimbursement at 72.5 cents per mile of required work travel.

  • $25 per month stipend for phone and/or internet usage.
