Position: Outreach Specialist

Hourly Rate: $23.00 per hour

Hours: 12 to 25 hours per week, including evenings, nights, and weekends

Employment Period: Temporary position - September through November 2026 (exact timing to be confirmed based on organizational needs and availability)

FLSA status: Non-exempt, eligible for overtime

Location: HIP office in Sacramento, California

Reports to: Sacramento Team Lead

Deadline: Open until filled

Start Date: July 2026

POSITION SUMMARY:

Hmong Innovating Politics (HIP) is a grassroots organization whose mission is to advance social justice and build power with Hmong youth and families through leadership development and multi-generational community organizing. HIP’s offices are based in Fresno and Sacramento, California. HIP is fiscally sponsored by Asian Americans for Civil Rights & Equality (AACRE). Staff hired by HIP will be employees of AACRE.

The Outreach Specialist plays a key, civically engaged role in connecting with voters across California through phone banking, door-to-door canvassing, and other outreach activities to turn out community members for the November 3rd General Election. This temporary position will also conduct ongoing outreach to Hmong and other People of Color (POC) voters through meaningful conversations about important community issues and public policies. Lastly, Outreach Specialists will work alongside our coalition partners to conduct a monthly door-to-door civic engagement survey to keep voters informed about the importance of participating in the elections.


EXPECTATION & RESPONSIBILITY

  • Attend and complete Mandatory Orientation and Training dates 

  • Must be able to work the anticipated weekly shifts

    • Note: Schedules are subject to change to meet the organization's goal

  • The position is primarily an in-person office role, with the option to work from home per a schedule agreed with the supervisor

  • Attend and partake in team-building activities and celebrations at the end of the program

  • Help HIP increase the civic participation of Hmong and People of Color (POC) communities. Additionally, provide in-language assistance & education to voters and their families as needed

  • Arrive to shifts on time and remain responsible by maintaining consistent communication with the supervisor, responding to their messages, and notifying them of schedule conflicts as soon as possible.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Commitment to the mission and vision of HIP and social justice principles

  • Commitment to expanding HIP’s base

  • Computer proficient and knowledgeable in navigating and using the internet

  • Must have the willingness and ability to travel and get to work on time

  • Strong communication skills, motivation, and adaptability, including the ability to work under pressure and with deadlines

  • Open to feedback and the ability to adjust based on the supervisor’s feedback

  • Ability  to follow procedures and instructions from a supervisor and perform tasks independently

  • (A plus) Fluent in English, bilingual/biliterate in Hmong or another language.

BENEFITS

  • Statutory benefits such as paid sick and family leave. Also, workers’ compensation, if they arise. This position accrues sick time at a rate of 1 hour for every 30 hours worked.

  • Mileage reimbursement for required work travel

  • Monthly stipend for phone and/or internet use
