Hmong American Day 2025: We are our Ancestors’ Dream

To our communities,

Hmong American Day is a commemoration to remember the hardship, pain, and hurt our Hmong people experienced from the results of the inhumane decisions by people in power.

This day is a marker of remembering the resilience and willpower of my Hmong people and how the resilience and determination for a better future courses through my DNA because of my elders and ancestors—even the ones I’ve never met because of war.

To our young people, our ancestors and our survivors of war had a vision of a liberated future, free of war and poverty.  They dreamt of golden rice fields, peaceful, loving neighborhoods and villages. They dreamt of educated and empowered children. We are their dream. You are the dreams and wishes of our ancestors.

I hope that this day of honoring and remembrance encourages and guides us to continue taking care of each other and everyone around us—that we build and create a world where everyone experiences their dreams in their lifetime and that we become the disruptors of systems and decisions that hurt communities.

In power,
Katie, Director of Programs
