Sports! Community! VOTER REGISTRATION!

HIP is out in full force to build a strong Southeast Asian American base in preparation for the 2014 ELECTION SEASON at the SEAA Games. Several HIP members have remarked that there are still so many community members who cannot register to vote because its such a struggle to become naturalized.

Two reflections:

  1. will things get better or worse for community members as Congress sorts out immigration reform? There are already so many barriers keeping our communities from fully participating in democracy.
  2. The ability to vote is such a hard fought privilege. There are so many around the world and in this country that could only dream of having a voice. For those who have this right: it ought to cherished, defended and exercised.
