HIP’s ORGANIZING INSTITUTE

HIP is excited to host our annual Summer Organizing Institute for Hmong and Southeast Asian American young adults this summer in the greater Fresno and the greater Sacramento regions.

Sacramento:

Monday, July 24 - Thursday, July 27, 2023
9:30AM - 4:00PM (everyday)

Fresno:

Friday, August 4 - Sunday, August 6, 2023
3 Days, 2 nights (this is an overnight program)

PURPOSE

Our purpose for this summer’s program is to plant the seeds of our futures, to allow young adults to experience individual and collective transformation, and to gain the necessary tools, resources, and development to become self organizing active agents of change.

We hope to provide an opportunity for our young people to learn about their identities, their hxstory, and their leadership, to feel more connected and build a sense of belonging to their community and social justice.

HOPES

We hope to uplift and grow a cohort of youth and young adults who feel empowered to be social change makers and conversation starters in the Hmong & Southeast Asian American community and in their own lives. To do this, we will support young people in:

  • developing an understanding of institutional and systemic oppression,

  • expanding the knowledge and capacity of our cohort through political education, leadership development, identity and self-awareness, understanding hxstory and colonialism, and

  • going beyond the binaries; and building community with one another.

JULY 24 - 27

This program is intended for Hmong and Southeast Asian American young adults, ages 18 - 26 years old (if you are 17 and just graduated high school, you are welcome to apply) in the greater Sacramento region (including Elk Grove, Stockton, and Davis). Southeast Asian American is identified as someone whose family hxstories stems from the wars in Cambodia, Laos, Thailand, and Vietnam.

This year we will be focusing on uplifting and celebrating Ecology of Us.

Ecology is the study of organisms and the relationships they have with their environment and community around them. We hope to be able to reflect and look at our own ecology.
