This fellowship aims to cultivate people power within the Hmong and Southeast Asian American communities, specifically focusing on civic engagement.

As a People Power Organizing Fellow, you will play a crucial role in engaging your friends, family, and community members in outreach activities and social justice campaigns that aim to improve the lives of our loved ones and the community. Your commitment and interest in creating positive change will be the driving force behind your work as an agent of change within your own community.

The People Power Organizing Fellowship cohort is designed to foster and amplify youth (ages 16 - 17) and young adult (ages 18 - 25) leadership, integrating youth/young adult capacity and development. 3. Increase the civic participation of Hmong and Southeast Asian American (SEAA) communities through voter outreach and engagement in the upcoming primary and general elections. Provide in-language voter education and ballot assistance for voters and their family members.

HIP seeks to hire 6-8 Fellows in Sacramento and 6-8 Fellows in Fresno; all applicants must be able to commit to the whole duration of the Fellowship. This is an in-person position at the respective HIP offices. Why civic engagement and voting?

Civic engagement and voting are important ways for everyone to participate in their community and have a say in choosing leaders and making decisions that affect their community. It's one way for people to come together and work towards making their community a better place. However, oftentimes there are systemic barriers and voter suppression that make it difficult for our community to vote. Examples of these include: language barriers, reduced early voting, poorly trained poll workers, polling place closures, reduced voting hours, etc. This is where HIP comes in. We want to make sure our community understands that their voice and vote matters, they know how and where to vote, and what is on their ballot. We know that voting can be a powerful tool to bring about positive change on the issues that our community cares about the most.
