Historically Disenfranchised Communities Hosts Education Forum

Sacramento Parents and Families Learn and Strategize About New Education Funding Opportunity

SACRAMENTO, CA – On Tuesday, February 25, Hmong Innovating Politics (HIP) and the Hmong, Mien Lao Community Action Network (HMLCAN) will host a community forum to engage parents and families about the Local Control Funding Formula (LCFF) and develop strategies on how to effectively utilize millions of dollars made available to Sacramento City Unified School District (SCUSD). Despite efforts to inform some parents, surveys conducted by several community based organizations revealed on-going confusion about the new policy. Thus, HIP and HMLCAN will provide a culturally and linguistically sensitive overview of the new education funding formula to help limited English proficient community members better engage in the development of a Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP). In addition to learning about LCFF, parents and other community members will help develop recommendations on how they would improve their children’s education.
