HIP seeks to hire a team of 10-12 temporary Outreach Specialist to participate in civic engagement activities in Fresno and Sacramento. Our goal is to educate and increase the civic participation of low-income Asian American and communities of color in California. Outreach Specialists will be contacting voters through large-scale phone bank and door-to-door canvassing.
This is a temporary position, starting early October 2019 and ending early November 2019.
The work schedule (tentative) is as follow: Saturday-Sunday (morning/afternoon) and Monday-Thursday (evenings). The hourly rate is $15, with no health benefits.
PRIMARY ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Talk to voters about issues facing low-income communities and persuade them to become involved.
Phone bank and door-to-door outreach.
Attend training workshops.
Data entry of results.
Complete accurate daily reports.
Analyze and reflect on voter turnout trends and best practices.
Commitment to the mission and principles of HIP and to social justice.
Fluent in English, bilingual/biliterate in an Southeast Asian language preferred.
Strong motivation and adaptability, including ability to work under pressure and with deadlines.
Strong written and verbal communication skills as well as interpersonal communication skills.
Basic computer skills.
Ability to commit and complete work schedule.
Ability to work well in a team and independently with minimal supervision.
Traveling and basic map-reading skills when working door to door may be required.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS
Experience working in Southeast Asian immigrant communities.
Able to give and receive constructive feedback.
Multilingual (Southeast Asian language) applicants preferred.
